BURKE is currently looking for a Web Developer to join our team full-time at our office in Charlotte, NC. This individual will assist with overseeing the development technologies and techniques of BURKE’s web team. This role will be expected to stay up to date on new tools and trends and spearhead adoption of these within the development team. While the primary responsibility will be developing web sites for BURKE’s clients, this individual will also be expected to provide insight on the entire web project process.
Responsibilities
- Primarily developing web sites for BURKE’s clients
- Showing a passion for web development and staying up to date on current web development best practices
- Facilitating adoption of new technologies and techniques among development team
- DevOps: Overseeing & managing staging and production server environments
- Leading development team into modernization of development tool set including adoption of version control via GitHub and deployment services
- Mentoring other developers, investing in their professional growth
- Working cross-departmentally to improve the overall process of development projects
- Serving as technical specialist for implementing security best practices such as HTTPS, SSL certificates and WAFs (web application firewalls)
- Leading by example in writing clean, semantic code based on industry best-practices
- Setting internal standards for performance, optimization & testing
- Managing a multitude of diverse website updates and feature requests simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Performing cross-browser and cross-device testing to ensure sites function equally across modern platforms
- Designing and implementing new features and functionality for clients’ sites across a variety of CMS environments (Joomla, WordPress, custom)
Qualifications
- Excellent knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and MySQL
- Experience with Linux server administration and DevOps (DNS and domains)
- 3-4 years of experience building and maintaining CMS based sites (WordPress experience required)
- Custom WordPress plugin and theme development
- Experience building integrations with 3rd-party APIs
- Creative and graphic design skills with a strong sense of design (Photoshop and Illustrator experience required)
